Under 21 Hurling

On Tuesday last, the 5th of December our U21 hurlers lost out to Mungret after extra time in the county semi-final on a scoreline of 1-19 to 1-15. Our lads battled through well over 80 minutes of hurling but Mungret just got the better of us for a finish. On a cold and crisp evening, our lads did well to keep the scoreboard ticking over in the first half, going in just one point down at half time.

The second half saw the young men of Na Piarsaigh spring out of the blocks with an impressive 3rd quarter, going ahead by 3 points. James Finn with an exquisitely taken goal, setup by Mark Hogan. Unfortunately our purple patch may have come too soon, as Mungret clawed back our lead. It was point for point for the remainder of normal time. Bradley Moran was required to step up for the leveling placed ball with the final whistle overdue. Extra time was to follow. Mungret scored 3 unanswered points in the first, and 2 in the second half. We had just the one score across both halves. Unfortunately we could not match Mungrets fitness and firepower off the bench in extra time. They ran out eventual winners by 4 points.

The team and management showed great commitment over the last 8-10 weeks, while juggling the workload of players involved in both the senior hurling and Harty Cup panel. There is no doubt that this group will produce some exceptional senior hurlers into the future for Na Piarsaigh. But senior hurling aside, it is vital that we retain the services of each member of the squad be it at senior, intermediate or junior level.

Team: Darragh Jordan, Mark O’Connor, John Fitzgerald, Jim Beary, John O’Keefe, Vince Harrington, Bradley Moran, JJ Carey, Wayne Kearns, Pa O’Neill, James Finn, Charles Hogan, Dylan Lynch, Josh Sheehan, Marcus Hogan. Subs: Mark Hogan, Ronan Benson, James Naughton, Steven Mitchell, Subs not used: James Linane, Andrew Stack, Cian Brosnan, Tadhg Mullane, Cathal Hassett. Minor Camogie

Our minor Camogie team had an excellent extra-time win over Mungret in the minor playoff last Saturday evening. Well done to all the girls and their management teams.

AGM

Our AGM took place last Thursday with a strong attendance in our new hall. Willie Fitzgerald and Derek Giltenan both ended their time in the club executive with Brian Buckley taking over the PRO position. We'll look forward to many fruitful years ahead.

The Future is Looking Strong!

The club would like to congratulate our senior hurling goalie Shane Dowling and his partner Paula on the arrival of their son Tommy over the weekend.

Not to be outdone, we would also like to congratulate Peter Hodnett and his wife Úna on the arrival of their son Maitiú. The Hodnett Dynasty grows stronger!
