Senior Hurling

Our senior hurlers maintained their unbeaten run in the league defeating Patrickswell in the City Final in the Gaelic Grounds last Thursday evening. The Well took a deserved 2 point lead into the half time break having been much more efficient in front of goal in the first 30 minutes. The break served our lads well, outscoring our opponents by 5 points to 1 in the opening 6 minutes of the second half. Marcus Hogan was introduced just before half time for an injured Daithí Dempsey, and he certainly added good energy to our forward unit. The Well fought back to go ahead 19 points to 18 but this was the last they were to see of the lead. On the 45 minute mark Kevin Downes powered up from wing back to drive a ball over the bar and level the game. We scored another 8 unanswered points to put the game to bed. During this period Gearoid Synnott denied them a certain goal with a tackle that would have received praise if performed over in Thomond Park. Evan Condon in goals also pulled off an excellent save to deny our opponents late on.

Special mention to Padraic Heaney who had a solid game at corner back but was unlucky to pick up an ankle injury close to the final whistle. We wish Padraic all the best in his recovery.
